The Caretaker Chairman Obi Local Govt Council, Benue state, Hon Joseph Ipenyi was at Chief Onah Amilo’s Palace in Igwe, Okwutungbe Council Ward for arbitration and dialogue with Community Leaders, over persistent destruction of farm produce and crops valued over #500,000,000 destroyed by Neighbouring Tivs People of Gwer East Local Govt Area.
The Council Boss was informed by Hon Francis Abba, former PDP Chairman Obi LGA Chapter and a stakeholder from Igwe community, that several nefarious activities of Mbapir people of Gwer East masterminded by Chief Peter Ochambe and Ekpo Apri who were the cause of the protracted communal clashes between Igwe people in Obi and Mbapir in Gwer East LGAs respectively.
Others who spoke at the arbitrary session noted that the two sudden warring communities were known for peace as they had reached peace accord long ago, they wondered what Chief Ochambe intended to gain from such an unquenchable infiltrations into the hitherto peaceful communities.
The Council Boss, Hon Joseph Ipenyi appealed to Chief Amilo and his subjects to calm down and sheath their swords as he had met with his Counterpart from Gwer East, Hon Nicholas Otukwa as peace accord has been signed by the duo, he urged them never to take law into their hands. Hon Ipenyi further advised Chief Amilo to call on the displaced victims of these crisis to return home as this will not repeat itself.
An Elder and a community spokesman, Chief Agaba Okeru, Chief Ikwe Idoko and others all appreciated the Hon Chairman for his kindness, magnanimity and prompt actions by the visit. They said they were releived by the Chairman’s visit and pledge to comply with his pleads. The duo equally charged Hon Ipenyi to prevail on the state Government to come to their aide.
The workaholic Chairman used the avenue to inspect a terrible gully erosion that cut off Igwe community market from the residents and pledge to construct it immediately.
