Benue State University management has announced the enforcement of dress code for students in the University. Dean Students Affairs Prof. J. T. Kerker made the decision known during meeting with students union leaders at the Senate Chambers, BSU Makurdi.
He said Management had earlier informed students that there shall be dress code in the University from 2018/2019 academic session, stressing that the University is not relenting in her determination to continue to inspire and impact positively on students intellectual and moral behavior since according to him its in line with the University’s core values.
The Dean Students Affairs said enforcement of dress code came to effect August 1st, 2019 and henceforth University will not tolerate indecent dressing adding that there will be restraining at the University gate, lecture halls, library, laboratories, examination venues, administrative buildings as well as business areas in the University environment.
Vice Chancellor Academics Prof. Edwin Omodu who strongly advised students to always exhibit good behavior and comply with acceptable mode of dressing also noted that the policy has been in the pipeline for a long time even as he said management will heighten sensitization among students within the University environment.
The DVC used the opportunity to shower praises on faculties including Management Sciences and Law for embracing and maintaining decent dress code.
Unacceptable dressing that will not be tolerated in the University environment includes; dressing that expose any sensitive part such as cleavage, chest, back, navel, thigh, armpit. Others are see-through wears, sagging trousers, wearing of earrings by males, plaiting dread locks by male students amongst others.
